A bank of trees, once an old hedge, some saplings rotted and fallen, others just starting
to grow. This is one of my first drawings from the Lewesdon Hill (West Dorset) series. I
love the chaos of holly leaves and twigs framing the scene, catching the sparse flashes
of light that penetrate the woodland understory. Beneath the trees this side of the hill is
swampy in parts, where trees rot as they grow, the holly thrives perched on the bank
here, it’s branches stretched out like arms, defiantly.
